The purpose of the Functional Architecture function at KLX is to provide leadership and guidance in the design and implementation of functional solutions to gain competitive advantage in support of business needs and strategy. The Functional Architect designs application solutions required to automate business processes and to meet business needs. This role defines best practices in the design and implementation of the solution. Responsible for solution quality, functional performance, scalability and usability. Provides architectural and “big picture” oversight for the implementation of Enterprise architecture. Participates in requirements elicitation, fit-gap analysis, business process management, vendor solution evaluation and presentations to business. Reviews and Prepares project deliverables as needed.
Provides clear and valuable documentation to support the team and communicates it effectively. Develops functional design and business process maps that document project plans, production systems, etc. Identifies, analyzes, and communicates architecture and integration options and makes recommendations to management. Documents best practices and solution blueprints.
The architect ensures that designed Solutions are successfully implemented by participating in all phases of the SDLC while working iteratively to ensure that systems are successfully evolved and delivered as maintainable finished solutions. Acts as at functional lead providing direction to technical resources and consulting on the implementation while owning delivery of the functional / technical design. Helps to coordinate with vendor resources to drive solution delivery. Supports the business in validating the solution.
Supports the team through mentoring and ongoing guidance for fellow team members. Specific Tasks: Regular design reviews of documentation and solutions generated by peers. Acting as an escalation point to support team members on specific troubleshooting, process or documentation issues. Helping to train members of the team in the latest best practices and design approaches.
The architect interacts with business leadership, applications systems management, technology management, vendors and industry experts to map business requirements into functional solutions that optimally balance cost, speed of implementation, and value while leveraging existing technologies and standards whenever possible. This role includes business process experts involved in defining the business processes and performing any business process re-engineering required before the application is designed from a technical perspective Specific Analyze and design the "to-be" business processes work with the business process team, client team to assess current capabilities and identify high-level customer requirements Identify and define detailed product requirements and use cases Set up and maintain the requirements and traceability deliverables Work with the project manager, solution architects, and other team members to define metrics and performance goals for the application Assist in translating requirements and use cases into test conditions and expected results for product, performance, user acceptance, and operational acceptance testing Participate in quality management reviews as outlined in the Verification and Validation Overview, reviews of the designs, prototypes and other requirements work products to ensure they fulfill the requirements Serve as a liaison to the business community. Participate in a user and task analysis to maintain the business community's perspective. Serve as a resource for the change enablement team as they evaluate training and performance support needs
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience
Minimum of 14 years of intermediate to senior level experience in multiple functional domains like Order to Cash, Procure to Pay, Source to Pay, Hire to Retire, Record to Report etc.
10 + years of experience in implementing Supply Chain solutions or Sales force automation solutions or finance solutions
• 10 years work experience in Information Systems, including roles as a hands on technical business systems analyst or programmer analyst.
• Understanding of service-oriented architectures, object-oriented analysis and design, business process engineering/workflow, and business rules. Familiarity with three-tier architectures, client-server architectures, usability principles and design patterns.
•Ability to absorb business drivers and functional requirements and envision the system capabilities needed to fulfill them.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks; problem solving, creative thinking, developing and acting on ideas.
• Ability to balance the long-term and short-term implications of individual decisions.
• Ability to translate business needs into architecture requirements.
• Exceptional written, verbal and overall presentation skills to communicate to peers, management and business unit staff.
• Knowledge of IT systems technology developments and trends.
• Experience participating in a diverse team setting.
• Ability to act in a leadership role supporting teams of skilled resources.
• Experience in mentoring and educating fellow senior staff members.
